Summary: House is beautiful, and very well stocked for linens and plates. The house instructions are a little lacking and Wi-Fi had no internet most of the time which became a big issue when the slight smell of gas we had been noticing all weekend got stronger. The pilot light in the unoccupied basement heater went out and when we tried to go to bed around 11pm the smell was overpowering. With no phone number to contact the owner and no internet we had to rely on spotty cell service to get a message out on the VRBO app. The owner texted back, asking us to light the pilot with the strong smell of gas. We declined (as there were no clear instructions and the unit shut-off didn't turn easily) and called the Todd Volunteer Fire Department. The FD was fantastic and agreed with our decision, found the main shut-off outside, and turned the gas off at each appliance in the house. We were told to stay up and leave all doors open until around 1am and then to sleep with the windows and sliding glass doors open as well just in case. Gas company should be checking all appliances and hopefully the beautiful home will be less of a headache (literally) for your group.
