History:
Designed as the nation’s first suburban shopping district built for cars, the Plaza was the vision of developer J.C. Nichols. Inspired by the architecture of Spanish marketplaces, Nichols began transforming swampy land in 1907. By 1922, the first Plaza buildings opened—earning the area the nickname “Nichols’ Folly.” Today, the Plaza is renowned for its Moorish-style architecture, cobblestone streets, and more than $1 million in public artwork, including fountains, murals, and over 30 statues.

There isn’t a separate dining area, but a large island with barstools for two serves as a convenient and cozy spot to enjoy meals.
